Can-C drops - update

Can-C drops - update

Jun 01, 2024Michelle Sutton

Sadly, we are no longer allowed to sell Can-C eye drops.

As of June 2024, we received notification from the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) that Can-C eye drops can no longer be sold as they are.

This is because they have decided it should be licensed as a medicine due to the NAC (N-acetylcarnosine) it contains.

This is a matter for the US suppliers and obviously if the licensing changes allowing us to sell them again, we will.

In the UK, supplements and medicines are subject to different licensing arrangements. Any medicinal claims for medicines must be supported by clinical evidence, usually in the form of clinical trial data. Food supplements such as vitamins or those with natural ingredients cannot claim to treat medical issues.

The MHRA regulates medicines, medical devices and blood components for transfusion in the UK. The MHRA is an executive agency, sponsored by the Department of Health and Social Care overseeing reporting of suspected side effects or adverse drug reactions to any medicines or vaccines, as well as medical device incidents.

They rigorously use science and data to inform their decisions, enabling medical innovation and to make sure that medicines and healthcare products available in the UK are safe and effective.

We comply with their updates for the same reasons and to improve eye health safely, assuring you of our best intentions at all times.
