Care of your glasses
Keep your glasses as dry as possible, removing any excess water as soon as you can. Water can cause metal parts to rust and the eyecups to degrade more quickly.
An alcohol/solvent-free wet wipe or make-up remover wipe (hypoallergenic) can be used to gently wipe and spot clean the eyecups.
On models with a removable gasket or eyecup, detach it before cleaning the lenses or frame. Do not pull on the foam or silicone eyecup to remove them. Use a nail to lift up the plastic or 'break' the magnet attraction. Watch the video guide below for the best way to remove each.
Airshield eyecups
What makes the Airshield eyecups stand out from the rest of the competition is they have a patented rubber layer on top of the foam to make it last longer (typically twice as long as the foam seal alone).
However, when new, this can come off in contact with sunscreen (but also makeup) leaving black marks around the eyes.
Therefore, we recommend putting sunscreen on ahead of time letting it absorb into the skin for at least 30 minutes. And with makeup ensure it is 'set' before wearing the glasses.
This tends to be less of a problem as the glasses age, or the Ziena range has silicone eyecup that avoids this issue.
Cleaning the lenses
Most of the SharpView lenses (except polarised lenses) have anti-fog coating on the reverse of the lens to help reduce misting,
It is not a permanent coating by nature so it is sensitive to scratches and lens cleaners with alcohol, for alcohol can destroy the anti-fog instantly.
The best way is to dampen part of a dust free microfibre cloth with a little water and then use a gentle, circular motion to clean the lenses. If there is excess dirt use a little soapy water. Then dry with a rest of the microfibre cloth.
(eventually the anti-fog layer will break down and be removed)
Changing the magnets
If the magnets in the frame fall out and are lost, they can be replaced.
First, identify the magnet you need (from the model and position on the frame).
Then ensure you know which side of the magnet needs to be facing out so it doesn't repel the one in the eyecup.
Then with a tiny dab of superglue on the correct side of magnet you can push it into the frame . If you add too much, the excess glue can ooze out of the hole and get the silicone eyecup stuck!
General safety and care advice
- Don't wear Xtra or Ultra dark lenses for driving.
- Don't drive or operate heavy machinery wearing the glasses until you have tested them to ensure it is safe to do so and the peripheral vision is sufficient for your needs.
- Don't buy the glasses if you are allergic to silicone or silicone rubber.
- Don't rinse/submerge theframes or removable AirShield/eyecup in water or liquid as this will cause part of the glasses to deteriorate.
- Don't put sunscreen, face cream, makeup etc on the part of your face that the eyecup touches
- Don't leave glasses in direct sunlight when not in use, especially photochromic lenses.
